Nokia seems to be in mood to say goodbye to its Symbian branding. In a blog post the company has announced that the next version of Nokia's Symbian OS will be called Nokia Belle. The blog post doesn't elaborate on the reason behind the change. As per the Nokia blog, starting February 2012, Nokia also plans to roll out Belle operating system, previously known as Symbian Belle, to some of its existing smartphones like Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7 and Nokia Oro. These phones are currently running on older Symbain operating systems.

The Belle operating system was unveiled in August this year and powers Nokia 701, Nokia 700 and Nokia 603 smartphones. The key features of Nokia Belle include the new informative lock screen that informs users about missed calls and messages in inbox. The new OS also packs improved home screen widgets and offers more customization options and new apps. The email widget on Belle gives users more information, making reading emails much easier at a glance. With Belle, users will also get an option to customize widgets like the clock, email, music player, favourite contacts and the calendar in five different sizes. Earlier this year, Nokia also announced that is retiring its Ovi mobile services brand.
